Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital

The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton is one of the few dedicated pediatric hospitals in the UK. The boat-inspired shape of the building led to it being called 'The Children's Ark,' which became the basis for the interior design and environmental graphics. The goal for the wayfinding and signage was to create a solution that not only guided people but also engaged them, appealing to children and parents of all ages.

Working closely with the design team, ecological environments such as the polar regions, coasts, forests, and jungles were integrated into the design. Each environment was represented in different areas like waiting areas, corridors, and play spaces. Large animal graphics were used as wayfinding markers, providing directions such as "turn right at the green rhino," and adding an element of surprise and delight.
