University of Wales

Situated on the banks of the River Usk, the Newport City Centre Campus for the University of Wales houses the Newport Business School and the design, film, and digital media aspects of the Newport School of Art, Media and Design.

Working in collaboration with BDP's architects and interior designers, I developed a wayfinding strategy that combines signage and environmental graphics. Simple directional signs combine with large destination graphics to create a clear, vibrant, and welcoming environment.

An important element of the brief was to consider a wide range of disabilities to make the sign system inclusive. Design interventions include: clearly signed accessible routes to aid mobility; and clear use of internationally recognised pictograms to aid understanding for non-Welsh speakers.
